The Forecast 4 years ago Maharashtra
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) of the Maharashtra government has surrendered around 2,244 acres of land under mangroves to the state government's forest department.
CIDCO owns almost 690 acres of the total property parcels, and it has made no objections to the remaining 1,554 acres under mangroves in the CIDCO region. The remaining mangrove-covered area is private and hence did not require an objection.
Aditya Thackeray, Maharashtra's Minister of Environment, gave orders to CIDCO on April 18 about the transfer of this land under the mangrove to the forest department.
The handover of mangrove-covered land will aid the government's efforts toward environmental preservation, conservation measures, and sustainable development.
Around 3,603 acres of mangrove land in Thane that was formerly owned by CIDCO have been handed to the state government's forest department.
CIDCO has so far given over 3,108 acres of mangrove grounds in Panvel and Uran districts, completing the process of turning over all mangrove lands in Navi Mumbai.
