The inauguration ceremony began at exactly 7.30 pm as planned at the Governor’s House. Eknath Shinde assumed the role as the Chief Minister. He assumed office in the name of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and his political guru, Anand Dike.
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office and secrecy to him. Similarly, Devendra Fadnavis assumed the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
The swearing-in ceremony was over in 12 minutes. With this, the political excitement and confusion that have been going on for more than 10 days in Maharashtra have dawned.
A vote of confidence
Next, Eknath Shinde, who will take over as the new Chief Minister, will conduct a trust vote in the Assembly and prove his majority. After that, the cabinet will be expanded. The current strength of the 288-member Maratha Assembly is 287. Thus, the support of 144 MLAs is required to prove a majority. Senior BJP leader Girish Mahajan said that the Eknath Shinde government has the support of 170 MLAs.
