The Karnataka cabinet has approved an internal reservation within the Scheduled Castes (SC) quota, aiming to redistribute benefits among different groups.
According to official details, the existing 15% reservation for SC communities will be divided into three separate categories. These are classified as Category A, Category B, and Category C, with allocations of 5.25%, 5.25%, and 4.5% respectively.
The decision is intended to ensure a more balanced distribution of reservation benefits among various sections within the SC community. Authorities stated that the move is part of efforts to address disparities in access to opportunities under the existing system.
The proposal was discussed and approved by the state cabinet, marking a key policy decision in the area of social justice and welfare.
Officials noted that further steps will be taken to implement the new structure in accordance with legal and administrative procedures.
