Google has laid the foundation for a large data centre project in Visakhapatnam, with an investment of ₹1.4 lakh crore. The facility is planned with an initial capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW).
The data centre will be developed across nearly 600 acres and is expected to support growing digital infrastructure needs. Officials stated that the project has the potential to be expanded in the future, with a target capacity of up to 6.5 GW.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by Andhra CM. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with other senior officials. The project is part of broader efforts to strengthen technology infrastructure in the region.
Authorities highlighted that the development will contribute to economic activity and support the growth of digital services. Preparations are underway to ensure smooth execution of the project.
The initiative marks a significant step in expanding large-scale data infrastructure in the country.
