Andhra Pradesh government has approved ₹895 crore for the free LPG cylinder initiative

The Forecast 1 year ago Andhra Pradesh

The State government approved ₹895 crore to cover the costs associated with providing three free LPG cylinders annually to eligible beneficiaries starting from Deepavali, which falls on October 31, 2024. A G.O (RT No. 38) concerning this matter was issued by G. Veerapandian, who served as the ex-officio secretary to the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies.

The department will adhere to the current subsidy payment mechanism established by the Government of India and five State Governments. This involves the payment of State subsidies to beneficiaries following the delivery of cylinders, utilising the Public Finance Management System as part of the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) initiative.

The implementation of the 'free LPG cylinder scheme' fulfils the commitment made by the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance ahead of the 2024 elections. The same was incorporated into their joint manifesto.
