India may continue to see high memory chip prices for the next 18 months, according to the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association. Industry experts said the ongoing shortage of memory chips has already pushed smartphone prices up by nearly 20 to 30 percent across the country.
Memory chips are essential components used in smartphones, laptops, and several electronic devices. Officials from the electronics industry stated that global supply issues and rising demand for semiconductor products have affected production and pricing in many markets, including India.
Manufacturers have warned that if the shortage continues, prices of smartphones and other consumer electronics could rise further in the coming months. Companies are also facing increased production costs due to limited chip availability and growing demand from technology sectors worldwide.
Industry representatives said demand for electronic devices has remained strong, especially with the expansion of digital services and mobile technology usage. The shortage has created pressure on manufacturers trying to maintain stable prices for consumers.
Experts believe the situation may improve only after production capacity increases globally and supply chains become more stable. Until then, the electronics market in India is expected to continue facing pricing pressure and supply challenges.
