Japan Airlines has started testing robotic technology to handle cargo operations at Tokyo airport, marking a step toward automation in airport services.
The airline is using robots developed by Unitree Robotics on a trial basis. These robots are designed to assist in lifting and moving cargo, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce manual workload. The pilot project is expected to continue for about two years, running until 2028.
Officials stated that the trial will help assess the performance and reliability of robotic systems in real-time airport conditions. If the results are successful, the airline plans to expand the use of robots to other areas, including cleaning operations and operating small battery-powered vehicles within airport premises.
The initiative reflects a growing trend of using advanced technology in transportation and logistics. It also highlights efforts to modernize airport infrastructure and streamline operations.
The trial is expected to provide valuable insights into the future use of robotics in aviation services.
