Amazon Reports Data Centre Water Usage

Janani G 3 weeks ago Tech News

Amazon has disclosed that its data centres worldwide used 9.46 billion litres of water during 2025 for cooling operations. The figure was released as part of the company’s efforts to provide greater transparency about the environmental impact of its global infrastructure.

Data centres require significant cooling systems to maintain stable temperatures for servers and other equipment that operate continuously. As demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence, and digital storage continues to grow, water consumption at large technology facilities has become an important topic of discussion.

In its statement, Amazon said its water usage remains lower than the levels reported by major technology companies such as Microsoft and Google. The company noted that it continues to focus on improving efficiency and managing resources responsibly across its operations.

Amazon also highlighted ongoing efforts to optimise cooling technologies and reduce the environmental footprint of its facilities. The company stated that efficient resource management remains a key part of its long-term operational strategy.

The disclosure offers a clearer view of the resources required to support modern digital services and reflects the growing emphasis on sustainability within the global technology industry.
