Australian data centre operator AirTrunk has announced plans to establish India’s largest data centre in Mumbai, marking a major investment in the country’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure sector. The proposed facility will be developed with an estimated investment of around ₹2 lakh crore and is expected to have a capacity of 3 gigawatts.
The project highlights growing global interest in India’s technology and data services market, which continues to witness strong demand from businesses, cloud service providers, and digital platforms. Once completed, the facility is expected to become one of the most significant data infrastructure projects in the country.
AirTrunk operates with the backing of Blackstone and has an established presence across the Asia-Pacific region. The company currently manages data centres in Hong Kong, Japan, and Malaysia, serving a wide range of technology and enterprise customers.
Industry observers note that large-scale data centres play an important role in supporting cloud computing, artificial intelligence applications, digital services, and secure data storage. The planned Mumbai facility is expected to strengthen India’s position as a key technology hub in the region.
The investment reflects increasing confidence in India’s digital growth and is set to contribute significantly to the country’s expanding technology ecosystem in the years ahead.
