Tamil Nadu has taken a significant step toward strengthening its drinking water infrastructure after signing an agreement with the Central Government to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 scheme in the state. The agreement is expected to support efforts aimed at improving access to safe and reliable drinking water for people across Tamil Nadu.

The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay and Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil. The agreement marks the beginning of the next phase of the mission, which focuses on expanding and improving water supply systems in both rural and urban areas.

Under the arrangement, Tamil Nadu will receive an initial allocation of ₹2,177.27 crore. The funding will be used to support various water-related infrastructure projects and strengthen the delivery of drinking water services to households across the state.

Jal Jeevan Mission has been one of the key initiatives aimed at ensuring wider access to potable water through improved pipelines, storage facilities, and distribution networks. The new phase is expected to build on the progress achieved under earlier efforts.

The agreement highlights continued cooperation between the state and central governments in improving public infrastructure and advancing access to essential water services for communities across Tamil Nadu.
