UPSC Clears Three Names for Tamil Nadu DGP Post

The process to appoint Tamil Nadu’s next Director General of Police has moved forward after the Union Public Service Commission approved a shortlist of three senior IPS officers for the top police post in the state. One among the shortlisted officers is expected to be appointed as the new DGP within the next few days.


According to official sources, the names recommended for the position include Rajeev Kumar (IPS), Sandeep Rai Rathore (IPS), and Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (IPS). The panel was approved by the UPSC following the standard selection procedure for appointing senior police officials to top state positions.


The Director General of Police is the highest-ranking officer in the Tamil Nadu police department and is responsible for overseeing law and order, crime control, and overall police administration across the state. The appointment is considered important for maintaining effective coordination within the police force.
