India Reaffirms Bilateral Approach to Nepal Border Issue

Janani G 2 hours ago National News

India has firmly opposed any move to involve a third party in resolving border-related matters with Nepal, reiterating that such issues should be addressed through direct bilateral engagement. The response follows reports that Nepal’s leadership is considering raising the India–Nepal border dispute with the United Kingdom.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that there is no role for any external party in matters concerning the two neighboring countries. Officials emphasized that India and Nepal have established mechanisms and communication channels to discuss and resolve boundary-related concerns through mutual consultation.

According to the ministry, some of the existing border issues are linked to changes in the course of the Gandak River, which have affected certain local boundary alignments over time. India noted that these matters are limited in scope and can be addressed through the joint committees and bilateral groups already functioning between the two countries.

India and Nepal share a long and open border, as well as deep historical, cultural, and economic ties. Both countries have regularly engaged in dialogue to address issues of mutual concern and maintain stable relations.

The latest statement reflects India’s position that continued bilateral cooperation remains the most effective way to resolve border-related matters and strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
