Sri Lanka is facing an unprecedented economic crisis. It is ruining the lives of the people and upsetting the politics of the country. Violence erupted on the 9th in a month-long peaceful protest against the Rajapaksa brothers over the economic crisis.
The country faced unprecedented violence as his supporters, frustrated by the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, unleashed violence against antigovernmental protesters in Colombo.
The violence, which spread across Sri Lanka, led to attacks and arson on the homes and properties of about 58 Rajapaksa supporters, including former and current ministers.
Nine people have been killed and more than 250 injured in violence between pro-Rajapakse and anti-government groups. Among the dead were MPs. It is noteworthy that the police were also involved.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa ordered troops to open fire on rioters as violence escalated in several areas, including the capital Colombo. As a result, incidents of violence across the country began to decline. Meanwhile, a curfew was imposed in Sri Lanka to ease tensions.
In this context, the Government of Sri Lanka has announced a relaxation of the curfew imposed throughout Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the Sri Lankan government has said that the curfew will be relaxed from 7 am to 2 pm and that the curfew will be resumed from 2 pm to 6 am tomorrow.
