Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honoured by the Government of Seychelles with the prestigious title “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” in recognition of his contributions to environmental conservation, sustainable development, and support for Small Island Developing States. The honour was presented by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during Modi’s three-day official visit to the island nation. It is the first time Seychelles has conferred this distinction and marks Modi’s 34th international honour from a foreign country.
The award recognises Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in promoting climate action, the blue economy, and environmental sustainability. India’s initiatives such as Mission LiFE, the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and other global programmes were highlighted as important contributions towards protecting the environment and addressing climate challenges.
After receiving the honour, Modi expressed his gratitude to the people and Government of Seychelles. He dedicated the recognition to all countries working together to combat climate change and safeguard the environment for future generations. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting global efforts aimed at building a greener and more sustainable world.
During the visit, India and Seychelles also strengthened bilateral cooperation through discussions on maritime security, sustainable development, and economic collaboration. The two countries signed several agreements and reviewed progress in areas of mutual interest. Modi also handed over a Made-in-India fast patrol vessel to the Seychelles Coast Guard, highlighting India’s continued support for maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
The recognition reflects the growing partnership between India and Seychelles and underlines the importance both countries place on environmental protection and sustainable development. It also reinforces India’s role in promoting international cooperation to address climate challenges while supporting the long-term well-being of vulnerable island nations.
