10 National Awards for Tamil Nadu: Suriya selected as the best actor

The 68th National Awards for Censored Cinemas 2020 were announced yesterday. The Tamil film 'Surarai Pobutu' was chosen as the best film at the national level. Actor Surya played the lead role. Sudha Kongara was the director. The film will be awarded the Thangathamarai Award and a cash prize of Rs 2½ lakh.

The National Award for Best Actor was jointly nominated by actor Suriya (Film-Suraira Pothu) and actor Ajay Devgan (Film-Thanaji:The Unsung Warrior). Both will share the silver lotus for the award and a prize money of Rs.50 thousand. Aparna Balamurali, who acted in the film 'Surarai Pottu', has been chosen as the best actress. Biju Menon has been selected as the Best Supporting Actor for the Malayalam movie 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum'. Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli has been selected as the best supporting actress for the Tamil film 'Sivaranjani and some other women'.

Sachithanandan, who directed the Malayalam film 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum', has been selected as the best director. He died a few months ago. The Hindi film 'Thanaji: The Unsung Warrior' has been chosen as the best populist film.

GV Prakash Kumar for 'Surarai Pottu' and S. Thaman for 'Aala Vaikunthapuramulu' Telugu film (Songs) are awarded Best Music Composer Award (Background Music). Sudha Kongara and Shalini Usha Nair won the best screenplay award for 'Surarai Poortu' and Madon Ashwin won the best dialogue award for the Tamil film 'Mandela'.

'Sivaranjani and some other women' has been selected as the best film in Tamil. Best Newcomer Director award goes to Madon Ashwin who directed 'Mandela'.

10 Awards 'Surarai Pobutu' has won 5 awards including Best Actor, Actress, Best Film, Screenplay and Background Music. The film 'Sivaranjani and some other women' has won 3 awards for Best Film in Tamil, Supporting Actress, Film Editing and 'Mandela' has won 2 awards for Best Dialogue and Newcomer Director. So, Tamil film industry has got 10 national awards.
