Emphasizing unity, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is going on a Padayatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. He first visited his father Rajiv Gandhi's memorial at Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district and paid floral tributes. Then he prayed fervently. He planted a sapling there and hoisted the party flag.
Later, in the opening ceremony of this padayatra named 'Bharat Jotha Yatra' at Kanyakumari, Prime Minister M. K. Stalin presented the national flag made of katar to Rahul Gandhi in front of Gandhi Mandap and started the padayatra.
