The State Health Department is aiming to keep over a hundred of the 415 Namma Clinics open till 8 p.m. to make healthcare accessible to the working class after their duty hours. Namma Clinics are now open from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that it has been decided to adjust the timing of the clinics to match the evening clinic model, and that plans have been taken to ensure that they function from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"The clinics were open during the hours when most people/laborers went to work." As a result, the impoverished are denied access to healthcare. "I have directed that the time be changed so that Namma Clinics can operate until late at night," the minister stated in a statement.
Because there aren't enough doctors to work two shifts, we've chosen to have diagnostic (laboratory) services in the morning and clinical services from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The laboratory services at the clinics will open at 7 a.m., with only the lab technician present. Doctors and paramedics will then be available from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.," he stated.
"Initially, 25% of the 415 clinics will operate in the evening on a trial basis." If this works, we will explore modifying the times of all Namma Clinics. "We will upgrade services at the clinics based on footfall," he said.
Namma Clinics have so far treated around 3.96 lakh women and 4.21 lakh males. Every day, 35 to 40 people visit these clinics for therapy. Another 2.88 lakh people have used the laboratory's services.
