After reviewing the partially completed Ejipura flyover project on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar said he was considering discussing the long-delayed project with the Cabinet in order to secure additional funding.

Mr Shivakumar stated that the flyover project, which began in 2017, was halted after 35% of the work was completed. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) revised estimate did not match the requirement of a single bidder that participated in the new tender. The bidder had requested an extra 19% for the job.

The 2.5-kilometer-long flyover, which would connect the Ejipura main road and the Outer Ring Road to the Kendriya Sadan junction, is anticipated to cost 252 crore. The initial cost estimate was 204 crore. Delays in completion till 2019 have cost the BBMP an additional Rs 49 crore. The contractor made only 3% progress between 2018 and 2019, and 2% to 10% progress between 2019 and 2023. The palike requires 141.6 crore to complete the remaining components of the flyover.

Mr. Shivakumar said, “We have to see whether the State can arrange funds to complete the project to ease Koramangala traffic. I will also discuss with the stakeholders and I’m contemplating the possibility of getting funds from the State by placing the project for discussion in the Cabinet. It is unfortunate that the project has been delayed inordinately and we will work towards realising the project.”
