The Congress had delivered on its promise of a separate State for Telangana; likewise, the party will implement six poll guarantees in the State, party leader Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday. The State is scheduled to go to the polls later this year. Announcing the six guarantees at a public meeting in Tukkuguda here, Gandhi said the Congress was not just fighting the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in Telangana but a combined team of the BRS, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the BJP. “They are all working together and that is why there are no raids on Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao by the CBI, ED or IT Department despite the BRS government knocking off ₹1 lakh crore in the Kaleshwaram project,” he said. “These agencies are after all Opposition leaders but not Mr. Rao,” he added “All corruption records have been broken but there is no case,” he said and termed the BRS ‘BJP Rishtedaar Samithi’ (association of BJP’s kin). Gandhi also explained the party’s six guarantees. Under the first guarantee, he said ₹5 lakh will be provided for construction of a house to all those who do not have one. He said a 250 square yard plot would be given to those who fought for Statehood of Telangana. Under the Mahalakshmi scheme,₹2,500 will be given to women every month. He also promised a cylinder for ₹500 and free travel by bus for women. Under the third guarantee, 200 units of free electricity will be provided for every household. Mr. Gandhi said ₹5 lakh assistance will be provided to students for education. He also promised ₹4,000 monthly pension for elderly and health insurance of ₹10 lakh. Under the other scheme, ₹15,000 will be provided to farmers and ₹12,000 for farm labourers annually, he said.
