Rahul Gandhi, a Congress politician and MP, paid his respects at the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) in Amritsar, Punjab, on Monday. Gandhi, on a personal visit to the religious site, paid his homage at the Golden Temple by presenting a 'Rumalla Sahib'—a sacred fabric used to cover the Guru Granth Sahib. He also did'sewa' (volunteer service) by cleaning devotees' water bowls.

Gandhi arrived in Amritsar after visiting the famed Ramlok Mandir (temple) at Sadhupul in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district earlier in the day with former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Sonia Gandhi and Vadra had spent the previous several days at the latter's home in Chharabra, on the outskirts of Shimla. Swami Amar Dev, the creator of the famed Ramlok Temple, stated that the three leaders arrived at the temple early in the morning and performed prayers at the freshly erected Naglok temple within the main temple's boundaries.

Partap Singh Bajwa, a senior Congress politician in Punjab, claimed Gandhi was on a "personal spiritual visit" and paid his respects at the Golden Temple.

He stated that the Congress party always hopes good for the country and hence, in addition to other efforts, seeks the compassion of God.
