The Government has described the Great Nicobar Project as a model of holistic development that integrates economic growth, ecological conservation, and social inclusion. Situated in the Great Nicobar Island, the initiative aims to utilise its strategic location to enhance India’s national security and maritime strength in the Indo-Pacific region. Key components include a Greenfield International Airport, a 450 MVA gas-solar hybrid power plant, and a modern township. Authorities emphasised that the project incorporates robust environmental safeguards and prioritises the welfare of indigenous tribal communities. By balancing infrastructure expansion with sustainability, the government views the project as a significant step toward strengthening regional connectivity, defence readiness, and long-term economic resilience.
