The Bihar State Women’s Commission has issued a notice to independent MP Pappu Yadav over his controversial remarks about women in politics.
The Commission took suo motu cognisance of his statements and asked him to respond within three days. It has also sought an explanation on why such comments were made and why his Lok Sabha membership should not be cancelled.
The controversy arose after Yadav spoke about the challenges faced by women in society and politics while referring to the women’s reservation bill. In his remarks, he said that many women cannot enter politics without approaching male leaders, and alleged that exploitation of women exists across different sectors.
He also stated that society and the system are responsible for the lack of respect towards women, and highlighted issues such as domestic violence and workplace exploitation.
The comments have drawn attention amid ongoing discussions on women’s representation in politics.
