Colombo Security Conclave to Gain International Organization Status: India Leads the Way

Janani G 23 hours ago National News

In a significant move to strengthen maritime safety, the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) is set to transition into a full-fledged international organization. This major development, spearheaded by India, aims to create a more robust and formal framework for regional security across the Indian Ocean.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the transition during his recent visit to Sri Lanka. He confirmed that agreements regarding the new status have been finalized following extensive discussions between member nations. In a notable first, an Indian official will be appointed as the organization's inaugural Secretary-General, reflecting India's central role in the initiative.

The CSC currently brings together six key nations: India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Mauritius, Bangladesh, and the Seychelles. Their collaboration focuses on critical areas such as maritime security, counter-terrorism, and cyber protection. By elevating the group to an international status, member countries will benefit from better coordination and shared resources to tackle transnational crimes.

This transition marks a new chapter in regional diplomacy and collective security. With a unified international presence, the Colombo Security Conclave is poised to become a cornerstone of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean for years to come.
