Governor Clarifies Stand on Government Formation Process

Janani G 2 days ago Tamil Nadu

The Governor has explained the constitutional reasons behind the delay in inviting TVK leader Vijay to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

In his clarification, the Governor stated that the Constitution allows the invitation to be extended only to the leader who is most likely to prove majority support in the Legislative Assembly. Referring to constitutional provisions and Supreme Court judgments, he said the process must follow established legal and democratic procedures.

He further explained that even if a party emerges as the single largest party, it must still demonstrate that it has sufficient support to secure a majority in the Assembly. According to the Governor, this assessment is an important part of the constitutional responsibility assigned to the office.

The clarification comes amid increasing political discussions and demands from various parties regarding the formation of the next government in the state.

The Governor also pointed to Article 361 of the Constitution, noting that decisions taken in the discharge of constitutional duties are protected under specific legal provisions.

The development has added further attention to the ongoing political situation in Tamil Nadu as parties continue consultations over government formation.
