Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully carried out the test of an indigenous long-range anti-ship hypersonic missile, marking a major achievement for India’s defence sector. The missile, known as LR-AShM, is capable of travelling at nearly ten times the speed of sound and can hit targets located up to 1,500 kilometres away.
According to officials, the successful test demonstrated the missile’s advanced speed, range, and precision strike capability. The weapon system has been developed to strengthen India’s maritime defence preparedness and improve protection along coastal and naval regions.
Defence experts stated that hypersonic missiles are considered among the most advanced military technologies due to their high speed and ability to evade traditional defence systems. The successful trial is expected to enhance India’s strategic capabilities in the Indian Ocean region.
The development also highlights the country’s growing focus on indigenous defence manufacturing and advanced missile technology. Officials noted that the achievement reflects the progress made under India’s domestic defence research programmes.
The successful missile test is being viewed as an important milestone in strengthening the country’s long-range defence and maritime security capabilities.
