Amazon has urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to grant approval for satellite broadband services, highlighting the technology’s potential to improve internet connectivity in rural and remote parts of the country. The request was made through a letter submitted by the company’s satellite internet initiative, Project Kuiper.
According to Amazon, expanding traditional broadband infrastructure through cables and ground-based networks remains a major challenge in many underserved regions. The company stated that satellite broadband can help bridge this gap by delivering reliable internet access to areas where conventional connectivity is difficult to establish.
Amazon emphasized that improved satellite connectivity could bring significant benefits to schools, hospitals, and public institutions located in remote locations. High-speed internet access would support education, healthcare services, communication, and digital development in regions that currently face connectivity limitations.
The proposal comes as demand for faster and more accessible internet services continues to grow across India. Several technology companies are exploring satellite-based solutions to expand digital access and strengthen communication networks nationwide.
