The Union Government has reduced the annual number of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders available under the Ujjwala scheme from nine to four, marking another significant change in the programme. The decision has drawn attention from households that rely on subsidised cooking gas for their daily needs.
According to the latest revision, eligible beneficiaries will now receive subsidy support for only four LPG cylinders each year. The move comes after a similar reduction made in the previous year, when the annual limit was lowered from twelve cylinders to nine.
The Ujjwala scheme was introduced to provide cleaner cooking fuel to economically weaker households and reduce dependence on traditional fuels. Over the years, the programme has benefited millions of families across the country by improving access to LPG connections.
With the latest change, many beneficiaries are expected to closely monitor their annual LPG consumption and plan usage accordingly. The reduction in subsidised supply has become a major point of discussion among consumers and stakeholders.
The revised policy highlights ongoing changes in subsidy distribution under welfare programmes, while continuing to keep domestic LPG support available for eligible households across the country.
