The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has said that the national Security strategy of India is evolving to suit the character of modern warfare. He was speaking on the Inevitability of Change and National Security in his keynote address at the 14th Air Chief Marshal L M Katre Memorial Lecture in Bengaluru. General Chauhan said that Geo-political, Economic, and Technological changes are posing new challenges and threats, the old order is collapsing and the new order is yet to stabilise, there are no permanent enemies and friends and uncertainty has increased due to assertive China in the Indo-Pacific region, Russia-Ukraine war, and the recent Hamas-Israel conflict.

General Chauhan said India is emerging as a leader of the global south and playing an important role in the multi-polar world order. In this background to build Viksit, Shashakt, and Atma Nirbhar Bharat, the Defence forces in the country are adopting a new national security architecture and strategies by reforming its structures and processes. The General said, the Theatre command is an important step in this direction. It is a process with a focus on integration between the three wings of the armed forces. He pointed out that the process of theaterisation must be based on consensus and the new joint structure must be driven by operational considerations and administrative efficiency.
