TRAI Recommends Cheaper Recharge Plans for Call and SMS Users

The Forecast 3 weeks ago General

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has proposed the introduction of low-cost recharge plans focused only on voice calls and SMS services.

According to the recommendation, telecom companies may offer Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) that do not include mobile data. This move is aimed at users who do not require internet services and mainly depend on basic communication features.

Major telecom operators such as Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea may introduce these plans if the proposal is implemented.

Industry sources indicate that these data-free recharge options could be priced ₹40 to ₹60 lower than current plans. This is expected to benefit users of basic mobile phones, including those who use button phones and do not need internet access.

The proposal highlights a shift towards more flexible pricing in the telecom sector, catering to different user needs. If implemented, it could make mobile services more affordable for a wider section of users.
