The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a major welfare initiative to support the state’s weaving community by providing free electricity to handloom and power loom workers. Effective from today, the scheme offers up to 200 units of free power per month for handloom weavers and 500 units for power loom operators. The move is expected to benefit around 93,000 handloom families and 11,488 power loom families across the state. Officials estimate annual savings of ₹8,640 for handloom households and ₹21,600 for power loom units. With an allocation of ₹150 crore annually, the scheme aims to reduce production costs, improve livelihoods, and revive the struggling textile sector.
