Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has directed authorities to carry out joint safety inspections in hazardous industries across the state following a tragic industrial accident in Tiruvallur. The move is aimed at preventing similar incidents and strengthening safety standards in workplaces that handle dangerous materials.
The decision comes after an ammonia gas leak at a shrimp processing factory in Tiruvallur claimed the lives of seven people. The incident raised concerns about safety practices and emergency preparedness in industries that deal with hazardous substances.
According to official instructions, government departments and safety agencies will conduct detailed inspections of hazardous industrial units. The audits will focus on safety infrastructure, operational procedures, emergency response systems, and compliance with existing regulations. Authorities will also review whether industries are following mandatory safety guidelines designed to protect workers and nearby communities.
Officials are expected to identify gaps in safety measures and recommend corrective actions wherever necessary. The inspections will cover various industries that are classified as high-risk due to the nature of their operations and materials used.
The state government’s initiative reflects a renewed focus on industrial safety and worker welfare. By strengthening monitoring and compliance measures, authorities aim to reduce risks and create safer working environments across Tamil Nadu’s industrial sector.
The planned audits are expected to play an important role in improving safety standards and preventing future industrial accidents.
