Theni District Chess players and Silambam players won National Championship and got selected for international Chess Tournaments as well as International Silambam (Martial arts).

National chess tournament conducted at Tirupur, Theni district Mugilan won gold medal, Sharmith Roshan Bronze and got selected for International Chess Tournaments going to be conducted at Nepal.

Also School Camp Activity Federation selected Theni ITI Student Hariram for International Silambam Tournament being conducted in Nepal. During special interview, sportsmen spoke with our Forecast Front News Correspondent, they told that District Sports Authority may conduct district level tournaments and select candidates for all sports activities and nominate selected sportsmen for the national and international tournaments. For example chess players, those who scored above 2500 points will be awarded GM Grand master and allowed for world Chess Tournaments. Such a selection procedure will reduce the financial burden, time consumption of sportsmen.
