Andhra Pradesh Plans India’s First Population Management Policy
The Forecast 1 month ago Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the state government is preparing to introduce a Population Management Policy to address the declining fertility rate and future demographic challenges. Speaking in the State Assembly in Amaravati, the Chief Minister said the policy will likely be finalised by the end of this month and implemented from April 1.
He noted that the state’s total fertility rate has dropped significantly from 3.0 in 1993 to about 1.5 currently. Mr. Naidu warned that if the trend continues, it may lead to an ageing population and a shortage of young workers in the coming decades. The proposed policy aims to maintain demographic balance and ensure sustainable economic development in the state.
