Thousands of people participated in a large anti-drug awareness run held in Chennai on June 26 to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event emphasized the importance of public participation in creating a drug-free society and encouraging healthy lifestyles among young people.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the programme by flagging off the awareness run and administering an anti-drug pledge to participants. Carrying the message “Start Run, Stop Drugs,” the campaign encouraged young people to reject narcotic substances and adopt sports, fitness, and healthy living as positive alternatives.
Students, athletes, coaches, government officials, sportspersons, and members of the public actively participated in the event. Organized by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the programme formed part of the state’s broader efforts to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of community involvement in prevention.
Officials stated that public awareness plays a key role in addressing substance abuse and protecting future generations. Similar awareness programmes are expected to continue across the state to encourage greater public participation and strengthen anti-drug initiatives.
The successful participation of thousands of people reflected a shared commitment to promoting a healthier society and supporting the vision of a drug-free Tamil Nadu through collective responsibility and sustained awareness.
