India today gifted 75 ambulances and 17 school buses to Nepal as part of its efforts to build a "strong and long-lasting" partnership between India and Nepal and improve its infrastructure in the health and education sectors. In the presence of Nepal's Education, Science and Technology Minister, Devendra Baudal, India's new Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, handed over the keys to the vehicles.
The donation of 75 ambulances also marks the completion of 75 years of India's independence, said the Indian Embassy in Nepal. "The gift of ambulances and school buses is part of a very strong and growing partnership between the two countries," said Naveen Srivastava. The initiative is one of India's long-standing traditions of promoting Nepal's efforts to strengthen infrastructure in health and education under the Nepal-India Development Partnership. Last year, India provided 39 ambulances equipped with ventilators to help Nepal in its fight against the coronavirus. Similarly, in 2020, India donated 41 ambulances and 6 school buses to Nepal on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 151st birth anniversary.
