The National Seismological Center informed us that a sudden earthquake occurred in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 5.57 am today. The earthquake registered a 5.0 on the Richter scale. The quake struck at 5.57 am at a distance of 215 km ESE from Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the National Seismological Center said. The earthquake was reported to have occurred at a depth of 44 kilometers from the Gulf. Earlier, at 2.54 am, the National Seismological Center had reported a magnitude of 4.4 at a distance of 244 km southeast of Port Blair. 20 consecutive earthquakes have occurred in a single day, which is shocking. However, no loss of life or property was reported due to the earthquake.
