Minister Araka Gyanendra held a meeting with officials of the Karnataka Prisons Development Authority and police officials in Bengaluru. In this consultation meeting, a detailed discussion was held regarding increasing the daily wages of the prisoners lodged in the jails across the state including Bengaluru. It has been decided to pay Rs.525 per day to the prisoners based on the salary set by the Labor Welfare Department. In this regard, Police Minister Araka Gyanendra said during an interview to reporters:- Prisoners across the state are currently being paid a daily wage of Rs.200. Out of which, Rs.100 is taken for their meals and other expenses. As a result, a consultation was held to raise the daily wages of the prisoners. The Labor Welfare Department is providing Rs.525 per day as daily wages to other workers. Accordingly, the daily wages of prisoners lodged in Karnataka jails are also increased from Rs.200 to Rs.525. It has also been decided to allocate Rs.7 crore for this purpose.
