'Chip' shortage lingers - delay in production of 6½ lakh cars

There has been a global shortage of "chip" devices installed in cars for the past 2 years. Due to this, car production in India has been affected. Customers have to wait for months as the "ordered" cars cannot be received on time. Leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki alone has over 3 lakh (40 thousand) cars in backlog. Hyundai and Mahindra have pending orders for 3 lakh cars. Tata Motors, Kia, and Honda Cars also have significant orders pending. There has been a delay in the production of a total of 6 lakh 50 thousand cars. Experts in the sector said that customers have to wait for 2 months to 9 months.
