Violent protests took place in the northern states against the "Agnipath" plan to recruit personnel for the three forces on a 4-year contract basis. Railway property was damaged. During question time in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said: "Due to the protests against the 'Agnipath' project, 2,132 trains were canceled from the 15th to the 23rd of last month." 102 crores, 96 lakhs were refunded to passengers. He said that due to damage to railway property, there was a loss of Rs 259 crore 44 lakh.
