Farmers grievance redressal meeting was held today at Tirunelveli District collector's office under the chairmanship of collector Karthikeyan I.A.S. District Revenue Officer Sukanya presided over the meeting. Joint Director of Agriculture and officers and farmers participated in it. District Collector Karthikeyan I.A.S spoke among the farmers in the meeting as follow.
Tirunelveli District received 41.48 mm rainfall in the month of September. This is 37.35 percent more than normal rainfall. In the current year, 270.90 mm of rain has been received till the end of September. This is 17.65 percent less than normal rainfall. 41.12 percent less than the average rainfall of the last 5 years. The District administration has sent a detailed report to the government regarding the lack of rainfall in the last 3 seasons in Tirunelveli district, the resulting decrease in crop cultivation area, crop damage, and the inability to release sufficient water for agricultural needs due to the lack of water in the dams. It is under the consideration of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department. Also, a detailed report has been sent to the government regarding the demand of the farmers of Vannikonendal area.
In the district till the current month, paddy has been cultivated in 870 hectares in Munkar season and 3131 hectares in Kar season, 259 hectares of small grain crops such as corn and rye and 1620 hectares of pulse crops have been cultivated in the district.
