The Forecast 2 hours ago Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Govt has temporarily closed 67 stone quarries for violating regulations, according to Mines and Minerals Minister T.K. Prabhu. The action comes amid intensified enforcement efforts targeting illegal mining and transportation activities across the state.

The minister stated that around 2,000 stone quarries are currently operating in Tamil Nadu. During inspections, authorities identified 67 quarries that failed to comply with existing rules and regulations. As a result, operations at these sites have been temporarily suspended pending further action.

Officials have also taken steps against unauthorized transportation of mineral resources. A total of 469 lorries carrying minerals without proper permits have been seized during recent enforcement drives. The inspections were conducted as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring and ensure compliance with mining regulations.

In addition, authorities have identified 78 locations where minerals were allegedly extracted illegally. Necessary action has been initiated against those involved, and investigations are continuing in several cases.

The crackdown reflects the state's focus on regulating mining activities, protecting natural resources, and ensuring that mineral extraction is carried out within the legal framework. The latest measures highlight Tamil Nadu’s continued efforts to improve oversight and promote responsible management of mineral resources across the state.
