India Records All-Time High Power Demand

Janani G 4 days ago National News

India recorded its highest-ever electricity consumption on April 24, with total demand reaching 252.07 gigawatts (GW), setting a new national record.

The latest figure surpasses the previous peak of 250 GW, which was recorded in May 2024. Officials noted that the rise in demand is linked to increased usage during the ongoing summer season, as temperatures continue to remain high across many regions.

Power authorities have been closely monitoring the situation to ensure stable supply and avoid disruptions. The increase in demand highlights the growing energy needs of the country, especially during peak weather conditions.

Experts have also indicated that electricity demand could rise further in the coming weeks. Estimates suggest that daily consumption may reach up to 270 GW during the current summer period if high temperatures persist.

Efforts are being made to manage supply and maintain grid stability as demand increases.

The record demand reflects the country’s rising energy usage while underscoring the importance of efficient power management systems.
