Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay signed his first official order after taking office, approving 200 units of free electricity for families that consume up to 500 units every two months. The announcement marks a major expansion of the State’s existing electricity subsidy scheme.
At present, all households in Tamil Nadu receive 100 units of free electricity under the ongoing welfare programme. With the new order, eligible families will now receive double the amount of free power support, aiming to reduce the financial burden on middle and lower-income households.
The government said the revised scheme will benefit a large number of domestic electricity consumers across the State. Officials are expected to release further details regarding implementation and eligibility procedures in the coming days.
The decision was one of the first major welfare measures announced by the new administration and has drawn attention across Tamil Nadu. The move reflects the government’s focus on household relief and public welfare through expanded support schemes.
The new order is expected to provide meaningful financial relief to lakhs of families while strengthening access to affordable electricity across the State.
