U.S. Engages Iran in Direct and Indirect Talks, Says Trump

Janani G 4 days ago World News

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Washington is currently negotiating with Iran through both direct and indirect channels, raising hopes of a possible agreement.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on March 29, 2026, Trump said he sees the possibility of a deal with Iran “soon,” though he added that the outcome remains uncertain. He noted that negotiations are progressing well but cautioned that talks with Iran have often been unpredictable.

Trump also stated that Iran has agreed to allow 20 oil-carrying ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz starting March 30, continuing over the next few days. He described this move as a “sign of respect,” highlighting its importance for global oil supply routes.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key passage for international energy shipments, and any easing of tensions in the region is closely watched by global markets.

The ongoing discussions signal efforts to reduce tensions and move towards stability, with both sides appearing to keep diplomatic channels open.
