CM Stalin Criticises Proposed FCRA Amendment, Calls It Attack on Minority Institutions

Janani G 17 hours ago National News

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has criticized the proposed amendment to the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act (FCRA), calling it a direct attack on minority institutions.

His remarks came a day after the Union government informed the Lok Sabha that it does not plan to introduce the amendment Bill during the ongoing Budget session. In a social media post on April 2, 2026, CM Stalin said the Centre has stepped back for now due to protests from Opposition parties and the upcoming elections in Kerala, scheduled for April 9.

He alleged that there are plans to bring the amendment through a special session of Parliament at a later stage. Stalin also claimed that the proposed changes would impact Christian NGOs, churches, and other minority institutions.

The Centre has not announced any fresh timeline for introducing the Bill.

The issue has drawn political attention, with discussions expected to continue as developments unfold in the coming weeks.
