The Election Commission of India has appointed a new Director-General of Police for Tamil Nadu and announced key changes in senior police positions.

Sandeep Rai Rathore has been appointed as the head of the Tamil Nadu police force, replacing G. Venkatraman, who was serving as the in-charge DGP. The order, issued on April 2, 2026, takes immediate effect.

In other appointments, Sanjay Kumar has been posted as Commissioner of Police for Tambaram, while Abhishek Dixit has been appointed Commissioner of Police for Madurai. Additionally, R. V. Ramya Bharti has been named Inspector-General of Police for the West Zone.

The Election Commission stated that the transferred officer will not be assigned to any election-related duties until the completion of the election process.

These changes come as part of measures to ensure neutrality and smooth functioning of law enforcement during the election period.

The appointments are expected to support effective policing and maintain order during the ongoing electoral process in the State.
