Political parties in Tamil Nadu will have a 38-day campaign period for the upcoming 2026 Assembly election, the same duration given during the previous election in 2021.
The schedule announced by the Election Commission of India on March 15 sets the campaign window until 5 p.m. on April 21. Polling across the State will take place on April 23. The Model Code of Conduct has already come into effect following the announcement.
The campaign period is considered crucial for parties, especially those contesting as part of alliances. During this time, parties must finalize seat-sharing agreements, identify constituencies, select candidates, and file nominations. They are also expected to release election manifestos and prepare detailed campaign plans.
The duration of campaigning remains identical to the 2021 Assembly election, which was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, candidates were also given 38 days to reach out to voters after the election schedule was announced.
With preparations now underway, political parties are expected to intensify their activities across the State in the coming weeks.
