Stalin Urges Centre to Review Gas Supply for Power Demand

Janani G 3 weeks ago Tamil Nadu

M. K. Stalin has urged the Union government to review the current system for supplying natural gas to power plants in order to meet rising electricity demand.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister wrote to Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, requesting a review of the methodology under the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026. He asked the Centre to ensure adequate gas allocation to power plants, especially with the expected increase in electricity demand during the upcoming summer season.

CM Stalin said Members of Parliament from the State would personally submit the letters to the concerned Union Ministers to seek immediate attention to the issue. In a social media post, he expressed hope for swift action from the Government of India.

He also recalled writing earlier to PM Narendra Modi regarding urgent matters affecting Tamil Nadu and Indians living abroad in view of the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

Officials said timely steps could help ensure stable power supply during the peak demand period.
