India has signed defence contracts worth ₹858 crore with firms from Russia and the United States to strengthen its military capabilities.

The agreements, finalized by the Ministry of Defence on March 27, 2026, cover the procurement of air defence systems for the Army and maintenance support for the Navy’s reconnaissance aircraft fleet. A major contract worth ₹445 crore was signed with JSC Rosoboronexport for the Tunguska Air Defence Missile System.

The deal was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The Tunguska system is expected to boost India’s multi-layered air defence by improving its ability to counter threats such as aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles.

In addition, agreements with U.S. firms will support the maintenance of the Navy’s P8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft.

These deals reflect India’s continued effort to maintain balanced defence ties while strengthening its overall security and operational readiness.
