Airstrikes Disable Desalination Plant on Iran’s Qeshm Island

The Forecast 3 days ago World News

Airstrikes have put a desalination plant on Iran’s Qeshm Island out of service, according to Iranian media reports on March 31, 2026.

The ISNA news agency, quoting Health Ministry official Mohsen Farhadi, said the facility was completely damaged and cannot be repaired in the short term. The report did not specify when the attack occurred. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier stated that a strike took place on March 7, blaming the United States.

Qeshm Island, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is Iran’s largest island and an important area for both tourism and military activity. The incident comes amid ongoing conflict in West Asia, where attacks on key infrastructure have increased.

Desalination plants are critical in the region, which relies heavily on processed seawater for drinking and industrial use. Similar attacks have been reported in Bahrain and Kuwait in recent weeks.

The escalation raises concerns about water security and regional stability, as both sides continue to target essential infrastructure in the conflict.
